Introducing Fugglers

We were commissioned by Libertas Brands and Blue Zoo to produce 90 comedy shorts for the Fugglers toy brand. If you’ve not encountered them before, and we’re unsure how you might have managed that, they’re “funny, ugly monsters”, or furry creatures with eerily human teeth. You might’ve seen them in Tesco, the Entertainer or Walmart if you’re based in the US. They’re soaring in popularity globally, resonating with customers from kids to kidults. We’ve sunk our teeth into this project, so here’s what we’ve been up to.

In just over a year, we’ve filmed nine series of comedy chaos, all written and directed by George Sawyer, starting with Fuggler Business - a spin on workplace mockumentaries filmed in our very own studio.

This one features our dedicated cast of comedy geniuses, Cerys Knighton, Nico Tatarowicz, Nimisha Odedra and Tendayi Jembere, as colleagues trying to figure out how to work under Fuggler bosses. We also meet beloved returning character Lub Lub.

It’s here that a number of incredible partnerships began, including with expert puppeteer Daisy Jordan. Daisy hand modified Fugglers across all puppeted series, and was our primary puppeteer on this project.

Next up we have Never Date a Fuggler, a series of dates between Fugglers and ‘stoopid hoomans’ who did not listen to the warning on the label. Filmed in local Brighton restaurant Kusaki, this series introduces some new puppeted Fuggler characters and bizarre storylines, as well as out of this world motion graphics and animation.

Fluff Up Your Fuggler sees vlogging groomer Frank get up close and personal with a line up of puppeted Fugglers. This series produced our most watched TikTok clip, featuring beloved Screech Fuggler Suzie, at over 2 million likes. Filmed with vlogger and CBBC talent Joe Tasker in local grooming showroom Diamond Edge, we had a lot of fun getting messy with fur, slime and sausages. This series also features awesome new anime style ‘gross-ups’ and graphics to really help fans get up close and personal with these Fugglers - we know we did.

Entering the second phase of this beast of a project, it was at this point that we felt the world was ready to really hear what these creatures were thinking and doing behind the scenes… introducing Living With Fugglers. A vlog style series called for more dynamic characters, so our talented team got to work animating Bailey, Chungus and Mizzo to bring this one to life. Starring the talented Jahannah James as influencer Kerry, this series pulls back the curtain on what it’s really like to have Fugglers living in your home.
