Our Approach
Animoco is a live animation software tool, developed in response to the changing viewing habits of young audiences today. It delivers an optimised production pipeline, allowing animated content to be produced quicker, in larger volume, and at lower cost than via traditional workflows.
The tool optimises the traditional computer animation pipeline and offers a solution whereby the animation process happens live, like a studio sitcom. Animated characters are puppeted by actors or animators using games console joypads, capturing performance in real time, and cutting down on the traditional animation ‘in-betweening’ process, in which characters are moved across a screen, between key frames, by a team of animators.
Beginning development in 2017, we have produced a number of pilot projects as proofs-of-concept using Animoco, which is built using Unity software. Our various iterations of the tool to date have enabled us to demonstrate the system with both 2D and 3D assets, with live and recorded audio, and projects that are animated both by a single animator and multiple actors who ad lib to their puppeted performance. As well as using the system to prototype our own IPs, we have used the system in a number of client projects for Cartoon Network and BBC.
